American Idol Still Tops

15th May 2008

As the season finale of American Idol approaches, it can be expected that more and more people will be tuning in to cheer for their bets. It is not surprising then that the show has the most number of viewers according to Nielsen. But what’s surprising is that there are fewer viewers this year compared to last year. Yes, 22 million households tuned in on Wednesday but it is the lowest number of viewers ever for American Idol. This cause is unknown to me but expect FOX to make some adjustments to attract more viewers in the future.

Jimmy Fallon Named New Host Of Late Night Show

15th May 2008

Saturday Night Live veteran Jimmy Fallon was recently named by NBC as the successor of Conan O’Brien when the latter replace Jay Leno as the host of the Tonight Show. The change is not scheduled yet but I expect it to be announced later this year as Jay Leno is set to say goodbye from The Tonight Show in 2009. It’s all good that Fallon finally gets a chance at hosting his own show but I am a big fan of Jay Leno and I hope the guy is given another show by NBC or any other network for that matter.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian Movie Reviewed

14th May 2008

The second installment in The Chronicles Of Narnia is upon us and EW.com had a look at the film and gave its unbiased opinion. According to the site, it is all about battles and nothing but battles.

“As amusing as this can be, the attempt by Caspian to win back his lost kingdom is really about all there is to the film — which is to say, this is a movie that showcases battle. Lots and lots of battle. As the soldiers pick up their broadswords and begin to slash and plunge, Prince Caspian seizes, and holds, your attention, yet it begins to look like any other mystically righteous clang-of-metal war movie. Creatures or no creatures, we’ve seen it before.”

14th May 2008

Jack Black just confirmed that Angelina Jolie is having twins, well, sort of actually. In the Today Show Jack Black said: “You’re gonna have as many as ‘The Brady Bunch’ when you have these.” Which prompted the interviewer to ask Angelina whether she is having twins or not. The actress replied: “Yeah, yeah, we’ve confirmed that already. Well, Jack’s just confirmed it actually.” So there you have it, Angelina Jolie just confirmed that she will be having twins.

6th May 2008

Earlier this weak, it was reported that a new reality TV show will be aired on Fox. The said show will be title Bad Dads and will focus on hunting down men and making them pay child support with the cameras rolling.

The possible airing of the show is met with protests. One of the reasons behind the protest is that this show would humiliate kids of men portrayed in the show as uncaring people. Well, Fox announced that they are still considering whether to produce a show like that or not.

Former New York DA, Jeanine Pirro will be moving to another kind of limelight as she takes on the job of being the jurist on the TV Show Judge Jeanine Pirro. This court show will be staking its claim to being the best of them all with Pirro as the biggest name headlining it.

With a lot of court shows around, Ken Werner, president of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution said that they are confident on Pirro’s drawing power. “Although some think the genre is overcrowded, we believe viewers will flock to Jeanine, who is a fresh face with a distinctive voice,” he said.

OJ Simpson Not To Appear On Apprentice

25th April 2008

OJ Simpson. That name has been part of this country’s pop culture. Simpson recently made the news again after reports surfaced that he will be appearing in the TV show The Apprentice. NBC though squashed these rumors instantly saying that they were never interested in having OJ in The Apprentice nor they ever will. Tough luck OJ.

Syantani Chatterjee writing for Reuters reported that:

Television network NBC on Thursday dismissed speculation that O.J. Simpson, who was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife, would appear on an upcoming version of its reality TV program, “The Apprentice.”

American Idol Slipping

25th April 2008

Arguably the hottest show on TV, American Idol seems to be loosing its grip on viewers. I still watch the show but I don’t know how many viewers get jaded with watching the show. According to reports, viewers of American Idol continue to decline just weeks before the finale. What could be the reason behind this? Am quite puzzled here really.

James Hibberd writing for Reuters reported:

“The Fox talent show drew 22.6 million total viewers, and an 8.2 rating, 21 share among adults 18-49, a demographic coveted by advertisers. Last Wednesday’s results show drew 23.3 million viewers.”
